Plants annual, 30-60 cm tall. Stem erect, many branched. Leaves alternate; petiole 1-2 cm; leaf blade ovate-elliptic, 5-8 × 2-3 cm, papery, abaxially hairy, lateral veins 5-7 pairs, base acute or subrounded, glandular, margin serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences 1-3-flowered, one flower often abortive; peduncles 1-1.5 cm. Pedicels ca. 2 cm, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, conchiform or arcuate, ca. 3 mm, apex mucronulate. Flowers yellow, ca. 3.5 cm deep, ca. 2 cm in diam. Lateral sepals 2, brown when dry, orbicular, 6-8 mm in diam. Lower sepal deeply saccate, constricted into a curved, short spur; mouth oblique, acute. Upper petal suborbicular, 1-1.2 cm wide, abaxial midvein rostellate at middle; lateral united petals clawed, ca. 2.7 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular, ca. 9 mm wide; distal lobes broadly dolabriform, large; auricle inflexed, suborbicular. Filaments flattened, ca. 5 mm; anthers ovoid, apex acute. Ovary erect, clavate. Capsule clavate, 2-2.5 cm, 3-5-seeded. Seeds brown-black, suborbicular, ca. 2 mm in diam. Fl. and fr. Aug-Sep.
