Planta annua, aquatilis, glabra. Radix obliqua, basi tantum fibris capillaribus instructa. Caulis simplex bifurcatusve, quadri aut sex uncialis, dense foliosus. Folia in rosulam expansa, aletrna, crassiuscula, spathulata; inferne venosa, pubescentia, superne glabra, nitida; utroque margine versus apicem dentata. Petioli foliis multoties longiores, tenues, gradatim decrescentes. Flores tetrapetali, octandri, axillares, solitarii, pedunculati. Pedunculi teretes, longitudine petiolorum. Ovarium quadrangulare, foliis duplo longius. Calicis folia lanceolata, persistentia. Petala quatuor, ovalia, quandoque obcordata, basi macula punicea notata, crassiuscula, subunguiculata.
