Herbs perennial. Stems 30-50 (-70) cm tall, 3-4 cm in diameter, fruticous, succulent, glabrous, erect, often branched from the base. Leaves simple, alternate, often crowded towards apex of stems; petioles 2-3 cm long, with 2 large glands close to blades; blades 11-15 x 3-4 cm, ovate or ovate-orbicular, with 7-9 pairs of lateral veins, margin serrate, apex acute, base cuneate. Racemes in upper axils, 1-2-flowered; peduncles very short, 2-3 mm long. Bracts ca 2 mm long, ovate, inconspicuous. Pedicels 2-3 cm long, slender, glabrous. Flowers pink or pale purple. Lateral sepals 4, outer 2.1-1.2 x 0.7-0.9 cm, oblique ovate to ovate orbicular, 9-veined, midvein apparent, apex mucronate; inner 2 0.5 mm long, ovate-orbicular, bract-like. Lower sepal 2.3-2.5 cm long, ca 1 cm deep, infundibuliform, base abruptly constricted into a 5-7 mm long incurved entire spur. The dorsal petal ca 2 x 1 cm, oblong to ovate-orbicular, apex mucronate, abaxially with a narrow crest. Lateral united petals 3.2-3.5 cm long, 2-lobed, upper petal in each pair 2.0-2.2 x ca 0.18 mm, oblong to obovate, with midvein ending in a conspicuous mucro; lower one 1.5-1.7 x 1.2-1.5 cm, suborbicular, apex slightly emarginate, mucronate, often connected to form a lamella. Stamens 5; filaments flat; anthers obtuse. Ovary 4-carpeled, fusiform, glabrous. Capsule elliptic, glabrous, ca 1.2-1.5 cm long, with an abrupt beak at apex. Seeds quadrateelliptic, ca 2.08 (1.93-2.20) x 1.46 (1.49-1.76) mm (length/width ca 1.42), covered with irregular reticulate ornamentation and scattered spiral vessel-like trichomes, and with obvious
longitudinal grooves along the raphe. Pollen grains long-oblong in polar view, aperture 4-colpate, polar axis x long equatorial axis x short equatorial axis ca 16.73 (15.10-17.64) x 41.09 (39.06-42.78) x 20.00 (18.96-21.06) mm, surface with reticulate ornamentation, processes in lumen not clear.
