Plants annual, 30-60 cm tall. Stem erect, striate when dry, succulent, simple or branched, lower nodes turgid, with many fibrous roots, sparsely pilose in upper part. Leaves alternate; petiole 2.5-4 cm, slender; leaf blade greenish abaxially, green adaxially, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 5-13 × 2.5-5 cm, membranous, abaxially pilose on veins, adaxially sparsely adpressed strigose, setose between teeth, midvein prominent, sparsely puberulent, lateral veins 5 or 6 pairs, curved, base attenuate into petiole, margin coarsely crenate or crenate-serrate, apex acuminate or shortly caudate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, racemose, laxly 3- or 4-flowered; peduncles conspicuously shorter than leaves, strict. Pedicels 5-10 mm, slender, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, triangular-ovate, 2-3 mm, fleshy, retuse, slightly obtuse. Flowers yellow, 2.5-3 cm in diam. Lateral sepals 2, obliquely ovate or suborbicular, thick, ca. 5 mm in diam., conspicuously 5- or 6-veined, apex mucronulate. Lower sepal saccate, ca. 3 cm deep, abruptly narrowed into a hooked or incurved spur 1-1.2 cm; mouth oblique, ca. 1.5 cm, tip acute. Upper petal orbicular, 1-1.2 cm in diam., apex retuse, mucronulate, abaxial midvein cristate, crista triangular, apically acute; lateral united petals ca. 2.5 mm, shortly stipitate; basal lobes orbicular; distal lobes dolabriform, larger, apex rounded; auricle inflexed, subovate. Filaments linear; anthers acute. Ovary fusiform, slightly curved, 3-4 mm. Capsule (immature) ca. 2.5 cm, clavate. Seeds many. Fl. Jun, fr. Jun-unknown. (Flora of China)
