Shrubs erect, to 2 m tall, with clear sap. Leaves in whorls of 3-5, subsessile; leaf blade elliptic or narrowly obovate, 5-14 X 2-4 cm, minutely hispid along veins; lateral veins elevated on abaxial surface. Flowers 4-6 cm. Corolla tube rather narrowly funnelform, ca. 3 cm, distinctly swollen at base, limb ca. 4 cm in diam.; lobes pale yellow, ovate or orbicular, ca. 2 cm, obtuse. Capsules globose, ca. 3 cm in diam., long spiny. Seeds ca. 2 X 1.5 cm. Fl. May-Aug, fr. Oct-Dec. 2n = 18. (Flora of China)
