Deciduous trees, 10-20 m tall, 40-60 cm d.b.h. Branchlets glabrous. Leaves alternate; petiole 3-8 cm, glabrous; leaf blade elliptic, rounded-elliptic, subcordate, or obovate, 9.5-23 × 5.5-13.5 cm, glaucous, pubescent abaxially, pinninerved, lateral veins 7 or 8 pairs, base auriculate, apex obtuse, obtuse-acute, or rounded. Umbels shortly pedunculate or sessile, 6-8-flowered, flowering before leaves or at same time. Pedicel 1.3-1.6 cm, sericeous-pubescent. Perianth segments 6(or 8), yellow, obovate. Male flowers: fertile stamens 9; filaments glabrous, of 3rd whorls each with 2 stipitate glands at base; rudimentary pistil ovoid, glabrous. Fruit ovoid, 13-17 × 11-13 mm, seated on cup-shaped perianth tube, black at maturity; fruiting pedicel 12-16 mm. Fl. Mar-Apr, fr. Jul-Aug. (Flora of China)
